ABOUT IMS
The institute of Maritime Studies (IMS), Niger Delta University (NDU) is owned by and is an integral part of the Niger Delta University, a university is accredited by National Universities Commission (NUC).
IMS NDU is one of the six maritime institutes founded in the six geopolitical zones in Nigeria in 2014 with the assistance of NIMASA to provide maritime capacity building and to offer career development trainings for both for shore and sea going personnel. The Institute is head by a Director who is an experienced maritime professional.
The Institute offers both professional (short and long time) and academic (from Postgraduate Diplomas to Doctorate Degrees) courses that are tutored by experienced season maritime professionals who have distinguished themselves in both professional and academic endeavors. The resources team is made up of professors, Dons, retired and serving maritime professionals.
The Institute offers courses in well-equipped classrooms in serene environments in Amassoma, Yenagoa, Port Harcourt and Lagos and we are willing and able to conduct large scale training simultaneously anywhere in Nigeria.
We have at present and in the past trained candidates in different courses for several organizations’ like NIMASA, Nigeria Content Development Board (NCDMB), Federal government through the Amnesty Committee, MAN Oron, the Nigerian Navy, Bayelsa state government and various oil and gas companies.

IMS MANAGEMENT
Born on the 22nd of August, 1967 just at the break of the Nigerian Civil War in the serene Otuabula II community of Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, Professor Aziba-odumomsi Agih first ventured into the academic world at the State School Otuabula II, in 1982 to obtain his FSLC
He later proceeded to Government Secondary School, Ogbia Town for a period of one year before moving to Government Secondary School, Anyama-Ogbia. It was at Community Secondary School, Akakumama, Okoroma in 1988 he obtained his West Africa School Certificate.
Throughout his early academic journey, Professor Agih exhibited a remarkable sense of discipline and commitment, earning the respect of both his peers and educators. His dedication to learning and community engagement laid the foundation for what would become a lifelong pursuit of excellence in education and public service.
He progressed to the Rivers State College of Education, Port Harcourt and obtained a National Certificate of Education in Political Science/Social Studies in 1993 and a Bachelor of Education Degree in Political Science in the year 1995.
